How It All Started—And Why It Still Matters
Some stories start with a spark of inspiration. Ours started with a tough break—and a strong belief in doing things differently. When COVID hit in early 2020, Matt’s job in the security industry disappeared overnight. With no clear path ahead, we knew we had to carve our own.
We leaned on what we knew best—homes. Both our families had backgrounds in real estate and construction, and we’d always had a knack for noticing the small stuff that others overlooked. We saw a need for home inspections that weren’t just checklists and clipboards—but experiences built on service, trust, and connection.
So, we rolled up our sleeves and started MI Homes North Inspections from the ground up. Just the two of us, learning as we went, doing every job ourselves, and making every client feel like they were the only one that mattered.
That personal touch? It stuck. Today, we’re known as the friendly, local inspectors who show up on time, explain the scary stuff without the scare tactics, and make even the most technical details feel human. And while the competition’s big, we believe being small—and staying real—is our superpower.
This isn’t just our business. It’s our way of serving our community and doing work we’re proud of. It’s been quite the ride so far—and we’ve only just begun.

Matt is our boots on the ground — and the face of our company 99% of the time. He’s the one who shows up at the inspection with a smile, answers every question in detail, and makes sure clients and agents walk away feeling confident and informed. He’s also a Certified Master Inspector®, a designation earned by fewer than 3% of inspectors nationwide — and it shows in his work. Whether he’s crawling around in a crawlspace or climbing a roof, Matt’s driven by a simple goal: make sure people know exactly what they’re getting into before they buy or sell, and feel good about the decision they’re making. He’s also the source of many of our best business ideas (and a few of our goofiest ones too).
Nikki Indish
Certified Home Inspector | Operations Manager | Chaos Coordinator
Nikki is the behind-the-scenes magic that keeps the entire operation running. With almost two decades of experience in IT, Operations, and Process Improvement, she’s the one who keeps the tech stack humming, the reports flowing, and the coffee stocked (a critical function). She added Certified Professional Inspector and Drone Pilot to her resume in 2025— and as the official “chaos coordinator” of both our business and our household, she thrives on bringing order to the whirlwind. She’s the planner, the scheduler, the system builder — and the one who keeps our team (and the rest of our family) where they need to be, when they need to be there.

Our story started in Williamsburg back in 2015, and we’ve been building a life — and businesses — together ever since. Over the last decade, we’ve raised kids, taken on fixer-uppers, bought and sold homes of our own, and spent more Saturday mornings at the jiu-jitsu/boxing gym than we can count. All these experiences taught us what really matters during the homebuying process: clarity, trust, and confidence. That’s why we’re so passionate about making inspections easier, clearer, and less stressful for the families and agents we serve.
We’re big fans of Michigan football (Go Blue!), fall hunting trips, relaxing days on the lake, and taking our kids hiking or fishing whenever we get the chance. Northern Michigan isn’t just where we work — it’s home. We live here, volunteer here, and raise our kids here. And there’s nothing more important to us than making sure our neighbors — whether it’s first-time buyers, seasoned investors, or the agents who guide them — get high-quality inspection services they can actually trust.
